APPLICATIONS

Eastbound is primarily an invite-only game — each existing player can currently invite up to one person per month, or get in touch about further invites. Existing players can hold two characters in game. A third character can be applied, if players can prove they have met activity requirements for two consecutive months with their existing two characters and have stayed engaged with the game. If you don't have an invite, somehow stumbled upon this neck of the woods, and you’d like to stay, drop the mod journal a line — we'll try to figure it out.

As of Oct. 1, cast/game caps are off. Please note, as of Dec. 1, Eastbound only has 3-4 months of gameplay left.

WHAT CHARACTERS CAN BE APPLIED?

YES: canon and original characters, if they have a solid and consistent personality and background. Characters brought in after they've died are a-okay. For characters taken from a time point just as they're in the process of dying, please read below on meeting medical requirements.

NO (at this time): real people, original characters set in a canon environment, characters from canons or canon instalments that have been released for less than one month, characters with imported development from other games (CRAU), alternate universe, or gender-swapped versions of canon characters.

Children or characters with very specific medical/magical/environment needs: appable, but please make a note of how your character will ICly meet their requirements and stay alive. Likewise, if you are applying for a character taken just as they're dying, provide a suggestion for how they can be kept alive on arrival (this might be easier in some app cycles than others). You can bend the world a little to make miracles happen (ex: a substitute for the medication your character needs to survive can be found for a high price at certain apothecaries, etc.)

Characters that were dropped or swept by activity checks: yes, but they’ll come back without their previous memories, if they are applied in by a different player.

NOTES

We are currently in Arc I, Sa-Hareth. You can find information about our latest event and the May calendar here. Our recent quests are still taking sign-ups!

As Ery is only partially human and taken from a timepoint where she’s perishing to darkness, she won’t register as living to the Sa-Hareth undead when Ery deploys some of her dark abilities. Some of Unhalad’s resurrected factions will, now and then (please use sparingly!) even mistake Ery as one of their own. Notably, Anurr’s undead forces will mostly acknowledge Ery as different — not unlike furniture. They won’t actively hunt Ery to sate their hunger, although they may still pursue Ery because their superiors have identified her as a target.

You may have to nerf Ery’s powers situationally, but dialling them down on a case-by-case basis is fine — Ery can still retain her abilities.

Newcomers receive a quartz piece that serves as a translation device and a communicator one. The sorceress Karsa has currently linked the quartz items she offers to a fishermen’s network — Ery will accordingly inherit the username not bad, cod do better. A new and less shamefully named quartz piece can be bought or stolen!

INTRO

Ery will wake in the salt mines outside of Sa-Hareth, somewhat drowsy and confused — almost as if she may have suffered a concussion. She will have full and immediate access to her powers. Making her way out of the labyrinthine undergrounds, she may notice the mines are distinctly deserted — emptied of both the living and the undead. Following the light, she will stumble on a large enclosure that appears to have been recently lived, showing evidence of fresh (but now quieted) fire, blankets piled together, and the cloth packaging of depleted provisions. On the wall, various scratch marks show the efforts of likely captives in the mines, trying to dig their way out. Some appear to have used blunts tools and nails to scratched on rock and ground, writing out, hunger, gods forgive me, and eat eat eat. Perhaps some of Ery's new friends might like to hear of her mine findings!

Finally, the halls open to the outside world in a shamble of stone, betraying a recent explosion.

As she walks down the mountain to civilisation, Ery will be spotted and taken in by Haltham and his (un)friendly goat, who call her out as one of the “Stolen.” He explains the basics: that she is outside of the western citadel of Sa-Hareth, part of an increasing group rescued from the undead forces of reining Unhalad. Most likely, Haltham suspects, she came through the mines in the footsteps of a series of miners that Unhalad rescued to convert into his undead forces.

Ery’s new allies were previously summoned into this world by Unhalad, who plans to use their strength and abilities as a resource in the war against his once deposed, but resurging rival, the undead warlord Anurr. In both their own interest and that of the land, the newcomers must leave this world through long-lost portals eastbound in the continent — a voyage currently stalled by poor icy weather, but helmed by Haltham’s collaborator, the elusive Merchant. The portals hope to return everyone to their homes, but the trip requires discretion and finances. For now, Haltham drops Ery off to join her new allies at the farmhouse, where she can perhaps lend a hand with the latest assignments.
