APPLICATIONS

Eastbound is primarily an invite-only game — each existing player can currently invite up to one person per month, or get in touch about further invites. Existing players can hold two characters in game. A third character can be applied, if players can prove they have met activity requirements for two consecutive months with their existing two characters and have stayed engaged with the game. If you don't have an invite, somehow stumbled upon this neck of the woods, and you’d like to stay, drop the mod journal a line — we'll try to figure it out.

As of Oct. 1, cast/game caps are off. Please note, as of Dec. 1, Eastbound only has 3-4 months of gameplay left.

WHAT CHARACTERS CAN BE APPLIED?

YES: canon and original characters, if they have a solid and consistent personality and background. Characters brought in after they've died are a-okay. For characters taken from a time point just as they're in the process of dying, please read below on meeting medical requirements.

NO (at this time): real people, original characters set in a canon environment, characters from canons or canon instalments that have been released for less than one month, characters with imported development from other games (CRAU), alternate universe, or gender-swapped versions of canon characters.

Children or characters with very specific medical/magical/environment needs: appable, but please make a note of how your character will ICly meet their requirements and stay alive. Likewise, if you are applying for a character taken just as they're dying, provide a suggestion for how they can be kept alive on arrival (this might be easier in some app cycles than others). You can bend the world a little to make miracles happen (ex: a substitute for the medication your character needs to survive can be found for a high price at certain apothecaries, etc.)

Characters that were dropped or swept by activity checks: yes, but they’ll come back without their previous memories, if they are applied in by a different player.

Like it says on the application page tin — you can have a maximum of two characters in the game, and you can invite one new person in per month!

Why weren’t we all born dogs?

Jackie’s fate past what wiki describes as the election is a very sad affair.

We have kicked off Arc II: Taravast, and characters have been cordially invited to Macaluso’s masquerade. Jackie will be assigned to serve Vannozza, receiving the identity of a sophisticated and ponderous philosopher, prone to speaking in wisdom and aphorisms many struggle to follow. Truly, a mind without compare. He earns the attention of academicians and politicians. Our man Jackie, he’s just that deep.

NOTES

INTRO: Jackie will effectively wake twice: first, hazily, in a cluttered and dim-lit house, in the hands of a dark-masked group he might later recognise as a paltry sect of scavenger necromancers, should he return to the district. He will feel them pawing at his body and addressing his wounds, for all he won’t understand their chatter. Once they realise he’s alive — to great clamour — the necromancers will set a cloth drenched in a brew of herbs and alcohol on his face, submerging him back to sleep.

The second time he awakens, shackled, will be in the great palace of the Doxe, presented to the sorceress Karsa, an employee of the party’s Merchant benefactor who is currently journeying with the caravan. She pays the necromancers a steep price, releases Jackie and arms him with a thralled artefact to serve as a translation and communication device. She also updates him on his whereabouts and on the story so far.

Jackie will wear no clear marks of his death: he would have a heartbeat, continue to breathe, have the same vulnerabilities as a living person. But those sensitive to death and necromancy will be able to clearly tell that he has died.

Jackie assumes his duties on the night of Macaluso’s ball, hours after the poisoning. He does not attend the ball. Lady Vannozza is instructed of his arrival, but struggles to welcome him, as she has been forced to lock in her servants and favourites in the safety of her private wing, for fear of retaliation for the poisoning, amid ongoing confusion. Some of Macaluso’s supporters have just begun to attack the doors, and Vannozza could certainly do with the help of a newcomer — Karsa provides Jackie with the clothes and mask necessary to pass for one of Macaluso’s drunken brawlers. She assigns him to infiltrate the gang and either persuade them to turn away, or take advantage of the overall chaos and enter Vannozza’s wing, when they weaken the doors. Jackie can assist the lady after.

Let me know in a comment here if this ends up played out (ex: on the communal log, or if Jackie tries to rally help from his new teammates via the network), as there can prospectively be a reward in it for our boy ghoul. Good luck!

Yes, his death is AWFUL, the first time I played the game it hit me like a truck. :c he's the good good boy who doesn't deserve this, but Wei avenges him at least.

There are no dogs in Sleeping Dogs. Except Jackie. He's a dog in human form. I will not be swayed on this.
