All game-relevant updates will be posted on lostcompass, but you can also consider following eastbound. There is an informal optional game discord server — you’ll get a private message with an invite, once you comment to the Taken List.
Like it says on the application page tin — you can have a maximum of three characters in the game, and you can invite one new person in per month.
If you’re not already served on that front, we have some custom codes to help you set up a character inbox or permissions post. Both are entirely optional, and feel free to customise at will!
Your character is exempted from activity requirements this month.
Our latest plot point is here — feel free to jump right in.
NOTES
INTRO: poor Cato awakens on a commercial boat bound for haunted village Ke-Waihu. He has been rescued, the merchants on boat tell him after supplying him a communication and translation device, while floating lost at sea. The merchants have never seen anything quite like him and are hoping to achieve a good price for Cato as an exotic trinket — they’re disappointed when Ke-Waihu locals seem terrified by his strange appearance, and instead try to offload him in the underground market.
There, Cato is purchased by Sairen, leader of the less savoury branch of the rulingguarding Hok-Shinn clan and brother of Ke-Waihu mayor Weisi. For the three days during which he enjoys their hospitality, the Hok-Shinn seem satisfied using Cato as a decoration, or as a trinket worth asking to either answer vulgar riddles or perform songs or dances. But Cato’s care background will serve him to realise that there is a rather sick man on premise, who takes pains not to show his illness — Sairen, whose underlings whisper has been afflicted for his failure to deliver what belonged to the lord Beastmaster during the latter’s previous visit. The Beastmaster is due to return once more, and Sairen’s more mutinous minions mutter that perhaps he will decide to kill off Sairen completely this time.
Inevitably, Cato catches the eye of Weisi’s son and Sairen’s nephew Taksui, during one of the latter’s countless visits. Taksui recognises Cato as an otherworlder and informs him he has reached the world of Akhuras, where undead forces battle each other and the living for control. The undead factions summon otherworldly reinforcements, to enslave or weaponise them in the conflict. Taksui is the (third-rate) liaison of the elusive Merchant, who finds and transports such newcomers east, to beacons hoped to return the visitors back to their home worlds.
After Taksui throws his father’s name around until villagers learn to overlook Cato’s strange appearance, he is officially introduced as a new member of the Ke-Waihu village and asked to drink or tricked into drinking an elixir that will let him take over and atone for the sins of a village ancestor. Cultist villagers believe this will gradually right the wrongs that have infected the community. You can find Cato’s ancestral curse here — enjoy figuring out how to atone for it! Check out how ancestral curses manifest and decide which of his two sins you’d like to play with.
Cato has also received a ’family unit’ and housing assignment. The villagers of Ke-Waihu believe the housemates are genuinely part of a family or clan — so try to cozy up.
