ADMIN

  • When you have a second, have a last read through the game rules and comment to the TAKEN LIST.

  • Join [community profile] eastbound, [community profile] lostcompass, [community profile] westwhere. Feel free to make an OOC intro post on [community profile] lostcompass, if you want!

  • All game-relevant updates will be posted on [community profile] lostcompass, but you can also consider following [plurk.com profile] eastbound. There is an informal optional game discord server — you’ll get a private message with an invite, once you comment to the Taken List.

  • Like it says on the application page tin — you can have a maximum of two characters in the game, and you can invite one new person in per month.

  • If you’re not already served on that front, we have some custom codes to help you set up a character inbox or permissions post. Both are entirely optional, and feel free to customise at will!

  • Your character is exempted from activity requirements this month.

  • Our latest plot point is here — feel free to jump right in.

  • Unfortunately, we might have to leave Ben’s Harry Potter book behind. We have a Harry Potter cast comprising two characters, and it might be a bit too fourth-wall breaking for them to be confronted with that. If you don’t mind also checking in with them before mentioning the Harry Potter series to their characters — thank you!

  • As a heads up for Ben’s injury: Wen Qing, Moiraine and Anduin are expert healers, Yennefer has some magical healing abilities, and Wen Kexing and Eleven can also patch up wounds. There should hopefully be a good Samaritan around to offer help with Ben’s back, if he needs it...

    NOTES

  • INTRO: Ben and his effects wash very literally ashore in relatively close proximity of a lighthouse. He is instantly compelled towards it, at all costs. Roughly 15km sprawl between Ben and the lighthouse — he will be protected from the native effects of the land of Ellethia the second he comes within a 3km radius of the tower. The remaining distance is a vicious trek of exposure. After 15 minutes of walking or running the course, Ben would notice any skin bared to Ellethian air would gradually burst into a rash, gashes and tissue-deep decay, before regenerating fresh and untouched. ( The full details of Ellethia’s bizarre life-death cycle and its effects on local fauna can be found here. )

Luckily, before his exposure can advance past the point of itching rashes, Ben is discovered by a group of biologists — the party’s current escort, Enam, and his helpers — all dressed in the finest red haute couture. Noticing Ben and his unprotected state of dress, they cover him in one of the spare suits they carry and supply him a communication and translation device. They rush to herd Ben back to the lighthouse, where he finds his mind clears of any lingering thrall.

Enam informs Ben that he has reached the world of Akhuras, where undead forces have been battling for dominion with the living and each other. The undead factions summon otherworldly reinforcements, seeking to enslave or weaponise them in the conflict. Enam’s collaborator, the Merchant typically leads efforts to find and transport such newcomers east, to beacons hoped to return the visitors back to their home worlds. The Merchant has uncharacteristically slated the party for a detour to explore his home region — the once glorious, now barren and elusively savaged citadel of Ellethia. First to fall to the undead, it has been sundered by sea water into two cursed regions: Allayar and Hamsour, where they are currently located.

The party has been labouring to decipher the mysteries of Ellethia and its strange lighthouse. The Merchant will later send a missive updating Ben on the story so far. You do not need the linked background material to play at this time, but feel free to assume he has that knowledge, if you wish him to.

Over the next three days after his arrival at the lighthouse, Ben will:
  • intermittently struggle to tell whether he is dreaming or awake
  • feel a cutting pain and hear sea crashing, if he touches any of the mirror glass shards on the 10th floor. He will not actually be cut unless he cuts himself
  • sometimes see the water in his cup or bathing basin as a silvery dark, before his vision clears

  • Feel free to under or overplay these effects as much as you want.
